Dengue Vaccine

Protects against dengue, a mosquito-borne viral disease very common in tropical and subtropical regions of Latin America, including Brazil and northern Argentina.

2 doses

Who is it for?

Travelers to dengue-risk areas, people living in or traveling to areas with ongoing dengue transmission, including most of Brazil and northern Argentina. Especially recommended for residents of endemic regions.

Duration of protection

Studies show protection for at least 4.5 years after completing the two-dose schedule. Ongoing research suggests long-term immunity may last even longer.

About this vaccine

The dengue vaccine (Qdenga®) helps protect against dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral infection caused by four types of dengue virus. Dengue can cause fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain, rash, and in some cases serious complications such as bleeding, shock, or organ failure.

Why this test
  • The vaccine helps prevent illness caused by dengue virus infection and reduces the risk of severe dengue and hospitalization.
Age group
  • Indicated for individuals aged 4 to 60 years.
  • Use in people over 60 years should be evaluated individually by a doctor, as data in this group are still limited.
  • Not approved for children under 4 years of age.
Dosage Schedule
  • Requires 2 doses
  • The second dose is given three months after the first.
Medical Prescription
  • A medical prescription is required to assess the individual's health history and ensure the vaccine is appropriate and safe.
  • Our medical team will contact you to review your health history and, if appropriate, provide a medical order for your vaccination.

Precautions

Precautions
  • Adults over 60 years: vaccination only after individual medical evaluation.
  • People with chronic diseases (autoimmune disorders, diabetes, cardiovascular disease): may be vaccinated if clinically stable and cleared by a doctor.
  • History of previous severe allergic reactions: requires medical assessment before vaccination.
Contraindications
  • Children under 4 years of age.
  • Individuals with severe allergy to any component of the vaccine.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women.
  • People with immunodeficiency or receiving immunosuppressive treatment (e.g., chemotherapy, corticosteroids in high doses).
  • Individuals with acute febrile illness (vaccination should be postponed until recovery).
Side Effects
  • Most reactions are mild and temporary, such as pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site, headache, fatigue, muscle or joint pain, and mild fever.
  • These symptoms usually appear within the first few days and go away on their own.
  • If you experience high fever, abdominal pain, vomiting, or bleeding, contact your doctor immediately.
How to Prepare
  • The vaccine is given by subcutaneous injection in the upper arm.
  • No special preparation is required.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if you have a current fever or illness, a history of allergies or immune problems, or a history of previous dengue infection or recent vaccination.
