Fetal Sex Determination Test in Medellín

Identifies the baby's sex by detecting free fetal DNA in the mother's blood by specifically evaluating the presence of Y chromosome DNA. In Medellin, this test can be performed starting from the 10th week of pregnancy. Samples are collected only on Mondays and Tuesdays. A medical order and signed informed consent are required at the time of collection. The test has 99% accuracy, and results are available 15 to 20 calendar days after the blood draw. The test should not be performed on patients who have received organ or bone marrow transplants, blood transfusions within the last 6 months, or who are taking heparin-based anticoagulants, as these can interfere with the analysis. This study does not detect pregnancy; if performed on a woman who is not pregnant, the result will show “girl,” as it identifies the absence of male DNA.
